Definition

A rockerkrig (literally "biker war" in Danish) refers to sustained violent conflicts between outlaw motorcycle clubs, characterized by systematic use of lethal force including shootings, bombings, arson, and targeted assassinations. These conflicts typically arise from disputes over territorial control, drug distribution networks, club honor, or membership defections between rival organizations.

The term gained prominence during the Great Nordic Biker War (1994-1997), a conflict primarily between Hells Angels and Bandidos chapters in Scandinavia that resulted in twelve deaths, numerous injuries, and widespread use of military-grade weapons including anti-tank rockets. This conflict fundamentally changed how Nordic law enforcement and legislators approached organized motorcycle gang crime, leading to specific anti-gang legislation in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries.

Rockerkrige differ from ordinary gang violence in their organizational structure, duration, and public impact. These conflicts involve hierarchically organized criminal enterprises with international connections, planned military-style operations, and deliberate targeting of rival clubhouses and members. The violence often escalates beyond the motorcycle club milieu to endanger civilians, as demonstrated by incidents where anti-tank weapons were fired at clubhouses in residential areas.

In legal contexts, rockerkrig-related violence is prosecuted under various criminal statutes including murder, attempted murder, weapons violations, and organized crime provisions. Danish law enforcement uses specialized prosecution strategies and enhanced penalties for gang-related violence, though "rockerkrig" itself is not a distinct criminal charge but rather describes the factual context of coordinated inter-gang violence.
