The Case in Brief
The Rørvig Murders rank among the most discussed criminal cases in modern Danish history. In July 1987, two 15-year-old boys were found shot in the dune landscape near Rørvig in the Odsherred district. The case remained unsolved for decades, evolving into a classic cold case that left a lasting mark on both Danish investigative history and popular culture.
The Crime
The two boys disappeared during a stay in the summer cottage area near Rørvig. The following day they were found killed by gunshot wounds in a remote stretch of dunes close to Dybesø. The killings shook the small holiday community, where summer visitors and locals had traditionally moved freely between beach, dunes and summer houses.
The crime scene — isolated dunes with limited sightlines and few passers-by — made the investigation difficult from the very first day. There were no eyewitnesses, and the physical evidence was constrained by both the terrain and the forensic capabilities of the time.
