What is the episode about?
Anthony Todt became the center of one of the most shocking criminal cases in Florida's recent history in December 2019, when he systematically took the lives of his wife, Megan Todt, and their three children, Alek, Tyler, and Zoe. In this episode of the podcast INFAMOUS , which is part of the Crime Junkie universe, hosts Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat go through the technical details and psychological aspects of the case. Unlike many other murder cases where the perpetrator flees, Anthony Todt chose to remain in the family's home in Celebration, Florida, for several weeks alongside the deceased family members and the family's dog, Breezy, whom he also killed.
The case behind the episode
The case of Todt Family Murders began as a welfare check when relatives had not heard from the family for an extended period. When the police finally forced their way into the residence in January 2020, they found Anthony Todt in a weakened state, while the decomposing bodies of his family lay in the bedrooms. The investigation revealed that the murders took place shortly before Christmas in 2019. Anthony Todt used a combination of Benadryl poisoning and stabbings to ensure that his victims did not survive. During subsequent interrogations, Todt provided conflicting explanations; he claimed, among other things, that it was a mutual death pact between him and Megan, but the evidence and Megan's physical condition at the scene contradicted this claim. The trial against Anthony Todt was extensively covered by media such as The Orlando Sentinel and Fox 35, as the case shook the otherwise peaceful and Disney-developed community of Celebration. Despite attempts to have his initial confessions declared invalid, he was found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
