Quick Facts
What is the series about?
Under Investigation (Nine Network, 2025) sheds light on one of the most shocking home invasion cases in recent Australian history in the episode 'The Two Intruders: The Defence Case Emerges.' The documentary series follows reporter Elizabeth Byrne as she examines the technical evidence and legal challenges in the trial against the two men, Fbritzy and Vicone, who are accused of the deadly attack on the couple Gregor and Irma Pelazic. The focus is particularly on how the defense attempts to overturn the prosecution's presentation of the events by attacking the forensic findings.
The real case
The case of Irma Pelazic began when two perpetrators gained access to the couple's home through a window with a flyscreen. Inside the house, the couple was subjected to a violent attack. Irma Pelazic sustained fatal injuries to her face, head, and abdomen, which led to her death. Her husband, Gregor Pelazic, miraculously survived the attack but was left with serious injuries after losing consciousness during the struggle with the intruders.
The investigation centered around the traces the perpetrators left in the home. Police found crucial DNA evidence on everyday items that the suspects had touched. A milk carton in the kitchen contained DNA from the suspect Fbritzy, while a watering can had traces from Vicone. Additionally, technicians secured a footprint from a Reebok shoe in the kitchen as well as fingerprints on the cut flyscreen, placing the two men directly at the crime scene.
