Norske Krimsaker: Norway's Most Notorious Crimes on Screen
Viaplay's documentary series dissects Scandinavia's darkest cases with intimate storytelling
Norske Krimsaker—English title *Norwegian Crime Stories*—is a documentary series that strips back the sensationalism to examine real investigations, resolutions, and the human cost of Norway's most infamous cases.
Produced by Monster and distributed through Viaplay, the series follows a proven formula: each approximately 42-43 minute episode focuses on a single crime, walking viewers through the investigation while incorporating perspectives from family members, investigators, and others directly affected. Episodes are produced in Norwegian with English subtitles available in select markets, making the series accessible to international audiences beyond Scandinavia.
The series spans multiple seasons released across 2021, 2022, and 2024. Season 5, containing eight episodes, premiered on Viaplay in the United States on October 3, 2024, introducing American viewers to a selection of cases that have captivated Norwegian public attention.
Notable Cases
Among the crimes featured is the Lørenskog-forsvinningen—the disappearance of Anne Elisabeth Hagen, who vanished without trace from her home in autumn 2018 under circumstances that gripped the nation and generated international media attention. The series also examines the Monika-saken, which centers on an 8-year-old victim, and covers the Orderud case, in which Per and Veronica Orderud were sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for the brutal murders of Per's parents and sister.
