The Disappearance
On 7 May 1992, nine-year-old Stefanie Kruger left her home in Aalborg to meet up with friends. The girl had planned to be out for only a short time, but she never came home. Her disappearance was reported to the police the same day, and a large-scale search was immediately set in motion.
Stefanie was last seen heading towards the area where she had arranged to meet classmates. Exactly what happened to her after that point has never been established. Police found no trace of the girl — not her clothes, her bicycle, or any other items that might have shed light on her fate.

The Investigation
Nordjyllands Politi launched an extensive investigation that became one of the largest police operations in Denmark at the time. Hundreds of officers were involved, and the area around Aalborg was searched systematically. Missing persons bulletins were issued, and the case attracted considerable media attention, which helped keep public focus on the disappearance.
Police also offered rewards for tips that could lead to a breakthrough. Several theories were investigated — ranging from abduction to accident — but none produced concrete results. The investigation was complicated by the absence of any physical evidence that could help reconstruct Stefanie's final hours.
Over the years there have been numerous tips and reports, but none have led to a definitive resolution. Police continued to pursue new leads whenever they emerged, yet the case remained unsolved.
Possible Theories
In the years following the disappearance, various scenarios have been speculated upon. Some theories point to a possible abduction and , while others have focused on a potential accident. There have also been theories that Stefanie may have run away from home due to personal problems, but this theory was not supported by the police .
